Fund a Need
FUND A NEED

$4,000

Provides scholarships for one season of private lessons to four (4) young musicians whose family is in need of a financial helping hand.

For many of these students, their family’s budget simply cannot support their music study and our PRIVATE LESSON PROGRAM makes the difference between whether or not they are able to continue their music study.  The Private Lesson Program began small and has shifted and expanded in the last six years to provide needs-based scholarships to up to 60 students, for private music lessons with vetted Milwaukee area musicians and music educators.  The program includes 25 half hour lessons, two Musician Meet-Ups and a Final Recital. Our teachers are working musicians in ensembles throughout the area including the MSO. They are school music educators.  They share their love of music, provide positive experiences, and serve as mentors to students at an important time in their development.

Supports one season’s presentation of performance awards and scholarships to the HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION winners selected to perform in the Showcase Recital.

The HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION is open to advanced high school musicians in grades 10-12 performing at or above the Wisconsin School Music Association’s (WSMA) Class A level.

The value of arts education in promoting high achievement in all academic areas is well documented, but the need for serious music students to develop their skills through live performance before an audience, and to manifest poise through solo audition and competition is often overlooked. School programs can rarely offer opportunities for dedicated students to perform as soloists, or for coaching in the techniques and etiquette necessary for a polished performance. Students who achieve an advanced level of musical study not only receive a double dose of history and math, but they also develop transferable life skills that will serve them well as they move through their adult life.

$2,000

Provides scholarships for one season of private lessons to two (2) young musicians in the PRIVATE LESSON PROGRAM.

Supports the presentation of Audition Day for the HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION.

Audition Day goes beyond what schools can provide to dedicated students, offering performance opportunities in front of esteemed panels of judges and in-depth workshops.

$1,000

Supports the annual honoring of outstanding vocal and instrumental music students attending high schools in the 5-county Greater Milwaukee area through the HIGH SCHOOL AWARDS.

School music educators nominate students to receive an award in recognition of their musicianship, scholarship, leadership, and service to their schools. Students receive a gold lapel pin and certificate.  And board members are always ready to be on hand to make that presentation.

$500

Supports one (1) Musician Meet-Up, our newest addition to the PRIVATE LESSON PROGRAM.

Developed to foster community, musicians and their families join us for dinner together and then the musicians are led in a fun musical activity.  This season, at one meet-up parents talked with each other about the joys and challenges of being a musician’s parent. At the meet-up held past month, we created a drum circle and parents participated.

Supports one season’s supply of tote bags and their contents to up to 25 Year 1 PRIVATE LESSON PROGRAM students.

These bags are a fun tool to help students organize themselves and are appreciated by both students and teachers.  They are a great looking bag with items to support a budding musician!
